With less than a month to go before peace talks, an African Union base has been attacked and overrun by members of a splinter rebel group. Ten peacekeepers have been killed, seven more injured, and dozens are missing in action. The peacekeepers were part of an AU force of about 7,000, and will be absorbed into a joint UN-AU mission totaling 26,000 troops next year. The AU described the attackers as being heavily armed and arriving in 30 vehicles and General Martin Agwai claimed that the forces belong to a group that has splintered off from the faction SLA United.
