A meteorite impact is being investigated as the possible cause of illness in 200 villagers in southern Peru. The meteorite impacted over the weekend, creating an 8-meter (26 ft) deep, 20-meter (65 ft) wide crater. Renan Ramirez with the Peruvian Nuclear Energy Institute stated a scientific team determined that there was no radiation at the impact site, nor were there indications the impact was caused by an artificial satellite, and that the illnesses may be due to sulphur, arsenic, or other toxins possibly released during the impact. Peru’s Geophysics Institute is expected to report Thursday on the incident.
