2,741 recently paroled California sex offenders were notified they must move because they are violating a new law, “Jessica's Law“, that bars them from living within 2,000 feet of schools and parks. Previously it was estimated that no more than 2,100 parolees were violating the law. “Jessica’s Law”, approved by voters in November; is named after a 9-year-old child abducted and killed by a molester in Florida. Inmate advocates, lawmakers and the corrections department worry that requiring offenders to move may force offenders to move to rural areas, become homeless, or return to prisons due to lack of suitable housing.
