Vacant SoCal house burns
A two-alarm fire ripped through a vacant two-story house Wednesday, causing an estimated $180,000 damage. "It appeared to be occupied by squatters," Capt. Kevinn Whitaker said of the seven-room house. "We've got three rooms gutted and extreme heat and smoke damage throughout the house." Flames and smoke was visible in the rear doorways and windows as fire crews answered the 8:06 a.m. call. According to reports, it took firefighters about 40 minutes to knock down the blaze. No one was hurt. The fire apparently began in a rear den or living area, Whitaker said, but the cause wasn't immediately determined.
