San Bernardino County District Attorney’s officials said on Thursday that the two Rialto police officers involved in the shooting of a 66-year-old man last June have been legally justified and acted in self-defense. Detective Jacqueline Haynie fired her weapon at Gilberto Moreno Garcia, hitting him once in the leg, on June 11 when he threatened her and another officer with a pickaxe held over his head, according to the District Attorney's report. Garcia ignored requests to drop the weapon and approached Haynie and Cpl. John Black even after Black used a stun gun on Garcia twice, according to the report.
