Johannes Heesters, a controversial Dutch singer and actor gave a concert in his home country for the first time after four decades. Security was high in the city of Amersfoort for the performance of the 104-year-old singer who once sang for Adolf Hitler and other German Nazis. Heesters’ program included "The Merry Widow", the German song that made him famous, as well as the Dutch classic "There by the Windmill". Around 50 protesters gathered outside the De Flint theatre to voice their disgust. Some locals said they were appalled that a former ‘friend of the Nazis’ was allowed to perform.
