Joanne Lee Hinojosa of Texas was sentenced to six months imprisonment with ten years deferred adjudication for stabbing her ex-husband’s dog 27 times in 2006. Hinojosa went to her ex-husband’s house to yell at him. When he ran, she took Marti, a 20-pound mix, into the house. Marti was later found with a knife sticking out of her side and had to be euthanized because of her injuries. In the plea deal, Hinojosa must continue mental health counseling, undergo anger management treatment, perform 250 hours of community service, and not be the sole caretaker of an animal for ten years.
