On Saturday, 102-year-old Eric King-Turner set off on a cruise liner from Southampton to New Zealand to start a new life with his 87-year-old wife, Doris. The man, now known as Britain’s oldest emigrant, is a retired dentist who was earlier quoted as saying “I would say to anyone that if you want to do something you should do it straight away while you can.” The two are both widowers who have lived in Hampshire since their marriage 12 years ago. Doris is originally a New Zealander who sponsored his application to emigrate. She still has a bungalow in Nelson.
