US pediatricians review previous recommendations for preventing allergies in children

The American Academy of Pediatrics is updating suggestions that may have made some parents feel they weren't doing enough to prevent food allergies, asthma and allergic rashes. The Academy’s new guidance report for pediatricians in Pediatrics, January issue, previous advice about restricting certain foods from moms' and babies' diets has been tossed out and the only surefire advice remaining is to breast-feed. Exclusive breast feeding for at least four months for infants with a family history of allergies lessens the risk of rashes and allergy to cow's milk. For most infants, at least three months of it protects against wheezing.
