Soon after take off at 1:48 PM on Saturday, the Piper Navajo Chieftain crashed in shallow waters. The plane carried 10 people on board and 6 were reportedly killed in the crash off Kodiak island. According to an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board, the pilot reported that he would be turning the plane around. However, authorities do not yet know why he tried to come back. The 50-year-old pilot, Robim Starrett from Kodiak, was killed along with five passengers including 36-year-old Stefan F. Basargin, 30-year-old Pavel F. Basargin, 25-year-old Zahary Murtushev, 22-year-old Andrian Reutov, and 15-year-old Iosif Murtashev.
