A Czech-made 19-seat LET L-410 carrying up to 18 people, including eight Italians, crashed into the sea near a group of Venezuelan islands. The plane, flying to the Los Roques archipelago from Caracas Friday, reported engine trouble and didn't arrive at its destination. Rescue workers in speed boats and helicopters have been unable to find the Transaven Airlines aircraft. The plane was originally to carry 14 people but four more boarded before takeoff. Air rescue and civil protection officials said the pilot reported engine problems just before contact was lost. The Los Roques islands are popular with divers and sunbathers.
