On Tuesday, Chinese media reported that a tourist resort will be developed at the Haikong cave, an area used by the former Nationalist government as a secret factory during World War II. The cave is located in the mountains close to the southwestern city and wartime capital of Chongquing. It is estimated to cost about 500 million yuan (about US$68 million) to develop. The local investment bureau’s website says the cave is “an ideal place for conferences and leisure travel. The plant was deserted in 1948 when the Nationalists fled to Taiwan after losing a civil war against the Communists.
