On Sunday, Brazilian media reported that almost 300 people were stung by jellyfish after a swarm filled shallow waters of a southeastern beach. An extreme heat wave is currently over the region and the swimmers were looking to cool off at the beach. According to a doctor at the Praia Grande hospital, at least 15 people including children and teenagers were being treated there for severe stings. However, he said, their lives were not in danger. A newspaper reported that many of the injured arrived at several medical centers on Friday and Saturday crying from the pain of the stings.
