Taliban’s official spokesman accuses the government, repeating a conspiracy theory many Pakistanis believe.

Taliban denies role in Bhutto assassination
The Islamic militant group blamed by Pakistan officials for the attack that killed Benazir Bhutto denied on Saturday any link to the killing. Al Qaeda-linked militant Baitullah Mehsud was not involved in the assassination of opposition leader Bhutto his spokesman, Maulvi Omar, said by telephone from an undisclosed location adding that “Tribal people have their own customs. We don't strike women." Omar, the official spokesman for the Taliban in Pakistan, also said Bhutto was a victim of President Musharraf's security apparatus. "This was a well-planned conspiracy carried out by the intelligence agencies, army and government for their own political motives."
