37,000-year-old mammoth carcass arrives in Japan
On Saturday, the frozen carcass of a 37-year-old baby mammoth arrived at Tokyo International Airport. The 4-foot carcass was unearthed in Siberia. Russian and Japanese scientists are working together in the project. According to the researchers, the mammoth’s trunk and eyes are virtually intact and it even has some fur. However, its tail and ear were bitten off. Through the study, the researchers hope to shed new light on the internal structure of the ancient beast. Mammoths are believed to have lived from 4.8 million years ago to about 4,000 years ago and probably became extinct because of climate change.
