On Thursday, Chinese media reported that a second-year college student withdrew from school after winning 5 million yuan (about US$683,000) for being the only first-prize winner in the country’s “Double Color Ball.” The Jiangsu Maritime Institute student was identified only by the nickname “Yong” to protect his identity. After informing the school of his winnings, Yong returned home. He reportedly told his roommates he would share 2,000 yuan with each of them. In an interview, Yong’s teacher was quoted as saying “We are not sure if he will return to school, but we hope he will eventually finish his education.”
