San Francisco officials have reportedly asked the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to allow the city to extend its groundbreaking universal health plan to thousands more uninsured adult residents next week, despite a judge’s ruling on Wednesday that employers cannot be required to subsidize the ambitious program. City Attorney Dennis Herrera's office and a group of labor unions are asking for an emergency stay of U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White’ ruling on Wednesday. “Without this stay, tens of thousands of San Francisco residents and workers will be deprived of critically necessary health care services for uninsured people,” Herrera said.
