AOL, which acquired Netscape Communications in 1999, announced on Friday that it has ceased development on Netscape Navigator, the browser that launched the commercial internet in 1994, because of a lack of users. “While internal groups within AOL have invested a great deal of time and energy in attempting to revive Netscape Navigator, these efforts have not been successful in gaining market share from Microsoft's Internet Explorer,” Tom Drapeau, director of development wrote in a blog post. Drapeau added that “after 1 February, there will be no more active product support for Navigator nine, or any previous Netscape Navigator browser.”

Hardly surprising given that the Netscape brand name means nothing anymore (and brand names like Firefox have taken over)
AFAIK Netscape 9.x was basically Firefox with new branding and extra AOL crap thrown in.
