On Christmas Eve, 77-year-old Robert Schoff from Des Moines, Iowa spent over an hour stuck upside down in the opening of his home’s septic tank. His head was inside and his feet were in the air. Schoff said he reached into the tank to find a clog. However, he lost his balance and got wedged into the opening. He tried to scream for help but it took a while before his wife discovered him. She called 911 and two Polk County sheriff’s deputies were able to get him out. “It was the worst Christmas Eve I’ve ever had,” Schoff said.
