On Friday, staff at central Australia’s Gapview Hotel in Alice Springs heard a man groaning when they arrived for work in the hotel bar. They then called the fire department who found that a man who attempted to burglarize the bar had been stuck in the chimney for about 10 hours with his knees jammed tightly into his chest. Firefighters and ambulance officer spent about 1 hour and 30 minutes trying to free the man before finally removing part of the chimney by using jackhammers. It has not yet been clear whether the would-be burglar was charged with any offense.
