On Monday morning, an elderly couple died in fire that spread through their northwest Washington DC home. Authorities report that 88-year-old George O’Keefe was found dead on the first floor of the 2-story home located on Oliver Street. Firefighters then found his 80-year-old wife Gisela O’Keefe on the second floor. She was in cardiac arrest at that time. Responders performed CPR but reported that she was pronounced dead in a nearby hospital a short time later. Although the source of the fire has not yet been confirmed, a fire department spokesman says they believe it began in the home’s basement.
