Dr. Stephen J. Schneider and his nurse wife Linda K. Schneider were arrested on Wednesday for the overdose deaths of at least 4 of their patients. On Friday, they pleaded guilty in US District Court to counts including conspiracy, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, health care fraud, illegal monetary transactions, and money laundering. The two are accused of operating a “pill mill.” The indictment stated that 56 of the doctor’s patients have died from accidental prescription drug overdose in the past five years. However, the indictment alleges that only four were directly caused by Schneider’s Kansas clinic in Wichita.
