An Italian mongrel named Rocco led its owners to a 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) white truffle, the largest unearthed since the 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) truffle found in 1954 and presented to President Eisenhower. Rocco’s owner truffle hunter and trader Cristiano Savini and father Luciano say they spent more than an hour digging out the truffle at a secret countryside spot near Pisa, Italy last week. The truffle is expected to break records when it is auctioned in Macau on Saturday. Auction organizer Giselle Oberti expects it to “beat the record €140,000 (US$206,430) paid for a smaller white truffle recently."
