Microsoft is planning to acquire Paris-based Musiwave in a bid to expand and strengthen its consumer mobile offerings. Microsoft will buy Musiwave from Openwave, which acquired the company for $121 million in 2005. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Musiwave technology is currently being used by several mobile network operators such as O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange to offer self-branded music download services. Microsoft plans to integrate Musiwave into Windows Mobile, Windows Live and the Zune media player. The Redmond-based software company also said it will still allow Musiwave to provide services to non-Windows Mobile cell phones.
